After 35 years in business, Sofra Family Bistro in Middleton, Wisconsin, is preparing to close its doors. The beloved Albanian-American restaurant, operated by the Lumani family since 1991, announced that its final day of service will be Sunday, March 1st.
For more than three decades, Sofra has been a cornerstone of the Middleton dining scene — serving creative Mediterranean, Balkan, and Albanian fare in a casual, welcoming setting at 7457 Elmwood Avenue.
A 35-Year Legacy in Middleton
Sofra wasn’t just a restaurant — it was a family story that unfolded over breakfast plates, strong coffee, and warm hospitality.
In their farewell message, the Lumani family shared:
“Your support over the past three and a half decades has meant more to us than we could ever put into words.”
They thanked past and present staff for their dedication and heart, and expressed gratitude to loyal customers who made Sofra part of their routines and family traditions.
For a restaurant to operate continuously for 35 years — especially as an independent, family-run establishment — is no small achievement.

The End of an Era
Independent restaurants that survive 35 years become landmarks. They outlast trends. They become generational. Parents bring children who later bring their own kids.
Sofra Family Bistro was one of those places.
As Middleton prepares to say goodbye, the Lumani family leaves behind a legacy of hospitality, cultural flavor, and consistency that few restaurants achieve.
Their final service will be Sunday, March 1st.
If you’ve ever thought about stopping in — now is the time for one last plate, one last cup of coffee, and one last thank you.
After 35 years, that’s the least we can do.
