Cocina Azul Shuts Down Montgomery Blvd Spot

Cocina Azul Permanently Closes Montgomery Blvd Location in Albuquerque

Cocina Azul has officially confirmed the permanent closure of its 4243 Montgomery Blvd location as of February 15, 2026. While the local chain continues to operate other popular outposts in the city, the Northeast Heights storefront has ceased all operations. The management has not provided a specific public statement regarding the decision to pull back from this particular neighborhood.

Located on the bustling Montgomery Boulevard, the restaurant was situated between Carlisle and San Mateo. It was a convenient stop for those near the Montgomery Plaza Shopping Center and was located just a short distance from Altamont Park and Eldorado High School. The location was well-known to locals as a more accessible alternative to their original Old Town site.

Cocina Azul built its reputation on authentic New Mexican comfort food. The menu was headlined by Frank Sr.’s Famous Green Chile Stew, fresh-made sopaipillas, and hearty blue corn enchiladas. Fans of the brand can still find these favorites at the original location near Old Town and their Westside restaurant.

I love old restaurants! There is something interesting about the history of a closed down restaurant and the amazing possibility of something new!
