In early March 2024, Augie’s Alamo City BBQ Steakhouse ceased operations. Owner Augie Cortez attributed the closure to ongoing construction and a significant decrease in business. He plans to merge this location with the original Augie’s at 3709 N. St. Mary’s St.

Second Pitch Beer Co. – Closed March 9, 2024

Award-winning brewery Second Pitch Beer Co. announced its closure on March 7, 2024, with the last day of service on March 9. Known for its seasonal and rotating beers, including the Hometown Lager and Meet in the Middle IPA, the brewery thanked its patrons for their support and friendship over the past three years.

Chocollazo – Closed February 2024

Chocollazo, a beloved sweets shop on Boardwalk on Broadway, closed its doors in February 2024. Owners Mary and Frank Collazo announced the closure on social media, expressing gratitude to their supporters. Their daughter Mikala will be taking over the space with her venture, The Ivy League Plant Shop.

El Ojo – Closed February 2024

El Ojo, a popular nightspot on St. Mary’s Strip, closed on February 10, 2024. Known for its unique music scene featuring obscure punk, ’80s goth, and industrial tracks, El Ojo was run by Danny Delgado and Co., the team behind other notable venues like Hi-Tones and Phantom Room.

Nuevo Leon Bakery – Closed January 2024

Nuevo Leon Bakery, a 28-year-old business known for its delicious tacos and sweets, closed its doors in January 2024. The bakery was a cherished spot for locals, blending traditional Mexican pastries with savory offerings.

Fratello’s Deli & Market – Closed January 2024

Fratello’s Italian restaurant ceased operations at the end of January 2024. The partners and general manager cited age and the challenges of running the restaurant as reasons for the difficult decision to close. Fratello’s was known for its authentic Italian cuisine and welcoming atmosphere.

Brown Coffee Co. – Closed Leap Day 2024

San Antonio’s Brown Coffee Co. served its last customers on Leap Day 2024. The coffee shop announced its closure on Instagram, expressing sadness at leaving South Town but pride in contributing to the city’s vibrant coffee culture over the past five years. It became Second Season Coffee and it sadly it is also closed down.

Rio Rio Cantina – Closed January 13, 2024

Downtown’s Rio Rio Cantina closed on January 13, 2024, after 34 years in business. Patrick Jennings, controller for the San Antonio-based Paesano’s restaurant group, mentioned that the lease was up and they decided not to renew, celebrating the restaurant’s incredible run and the memories created.

Tlahco Mexican Kitchen – Stone Oak – Closed December 2023
1662 Encino Rio, Suite 100, San Antonio, TX
Tlahco Mexican Kitchen’s Stone Oak location closed at the end of 2023. This north San Antonio branch, which opened in January 2022, was part of a beloved local chain known for its authentic Mexican cuisine. The flagship location on San Pedro Ave. remains operational.

Meemo’s Bakery – Closed December 2023

Bexar Kolache Co. closed on Christmas Eve 2023. Founder Emily Stone hinted at plans to relocate the business, expressing hope to continue breathing life into San Antonio’s historic buildings through her unique culinary offerings. Listed as Temporarily Closed as of 6/4/2024
