Alejandro’s Restaurant — Farewell to a 20-Year Local Favorite in Ulysses, KS

For two decades, Alejandro’s Restaurant stood as a beloved gathering place in Ulysses, Kansas

Where families, friends, and neighbors shared meals and memories. But this week, after 20 remarkable years of service, the Delgado family has announced that Alejandro’s has closed its doors — marking the end of an era for the small community.

A Heartfelt Goodbye

In a touching message shared on social media, the owners thanked the community for years of support. They emphasized that every handshake, hug, and conversation inside the restaurant helped shape who they became — and that feeding people during their most meaningful moments was “the heart of what we do.”

After many months of prayer and thoughtful reflection, Martin, Betty, and their family decided it was time to step away from the traditional restaurant model. They shared that the choice was not made lightly, and that they understand it may feel sudden to many loyal patrons.

What’s Next? Food Truck & Catering

While the restaurant’s dining room is now closed, the Delgado family isn’t leaving the culinary scene entirely. Plans are underway to launch a food truck in the coming week — bringing back many of the top-selling favorites that customers know and love.

In addition, they will be focusing on expanding their catering services, serving gatherings, businesses, churches, families, and special events throughout the region.

Customers with unused gift certificates can still redeem them at the food truck — but only toward food purchases (not cash back and not toward tips).

Community Love & Memories

Within minutes of the announcement, long–time patrons began sharing their memories in the comments. Locals recalled family meals from as far back as the 1990s — from the restaurant’s original location on Colorado Avenue near the Catholic church to its later home on the city grid.

One commenter shared how her family built traditions around weekly visits, and praised the catering at community functions. Another thanked the owners for their hard work and wished them well for travels and the next chapter in life.

It’s clear that Alejandro’s wasn’t just a restaurant — it was a place where stories were made, birthdays celebrated, friendships forged, and generations connected over hearty plates and warm service.

A Legacy That Lives On

Before closing, Alejandro’s was known not only for its generous portions and wide-ranging menu but also for its friendly, welcoming atmosphere. From steak dinners and seafood plates to BBQ, Cajun pasta bowls, and pizzas, there was something for every palate.

And while the dining room may be closed, the Delgado family’s passion for feeding their community lives on through the new food truck and expanded catering offerings.

For those who grew up going there — from high school nights to family celebrations — Alejandro’s will always be remembered as a special part of Ulysses’ culinary history.
